How we manage our vineyards

Our goal is to grow the highest-quality grapes and to intervene as little as possible in the Terroir. The work of the agricultural team at Viña Undurraga is divided into the following stages:

Respect for the environment: We aim to create wines with the minimum of chemical and artificial intervention. Therefore, in all our operations we use products which have little chemical impact on the result.

Rigorous analysis: We carry out in-depth studies of the different soil types, climates and the physiological behaviour of the different varieties.

Ongoing planning: Our team is constantly on the look-out for terroirs in specific areas in order to get the best results in terms of both quality and yield and, at the same time, enrich the experience of our consumers.

Drip-irrigation system: We use drip-irrigation in all our vineyards, because the results have been excellent, both in terms of fruit quality and taking caring of this vital resource.

Trained personnel: We provide ongoing training for our winemaking and agricultural staff on topics related to their own and other areas.

Diverse Origins

Our wines are the product of grapes grown in particular areas of Chile. Our main winery is located in the Maipo Valley, Chile’s most prestigious and traditional wine-producing area. We also have vineyards in the mains viticulture valleys in Chile like, Leyda, Colchagua, Cachapoal and Maule. Some are well-established wine-producing areas, while others have been recently discovered and are growing in popularity. This diversity of terroirs enables Undurraga to offer an interesting range of wines.

Our viticultural team is led by Francisco Valdivieso, Undurraga’s Agricultural Manager.

Winemaking and Winery

The winemaking process is managed by Rafael Urrejola, head winemaker at Undurraga. He is supported by winemakers Carlos Concha, Pilar Díaz and Patricio Lucero. In addition, Undurraga’s winemaking team enjoys the ongoing support of renowned enologist Alvaro Espinoza for still wines, while French winemaker Philippe Coulon advises us on our line of sparkling wines.

On the Santa Ana Estate in Talagante, Viña Undurraga has state of the art facilities for carrying out the fermentation, development, ageing and bottling processes for both still and sparkling wines.

The cool antique underground cellars that date back to the winery’s founding days in the 19th century provide the perfect environment for ageing our Reserva wines. Thanks to our experienced winemaking team and modern facilities, with their 20-million-litre capacity, Undurraga has developed quality wines of international renown able to satisfy a wide range of tastes.
